Douglass Trumbull, who invented the showscan high frame rate cinema format (70mm - 60 fps) and worked on "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Blade Runner", as well as directing cult classics such as 1971's environmentally themed "Silent Running", has two full-length projects in the works, and both will be shot in 4K 3D stereoscopic and 120 images/second high-frame-rate, no less...

The first of the two planned movies is a science fiction epic that takes place about 200 years in the future. The other one is an expanded version of his current short "Ufotog", which tells the story of a man's attempt to photograph an alien spacecraft. 

Russia’s Riki Productions presented at the Annecy Animated Film Festival its latest 3D stereoscopic animated feature, “Kikoriki: Legend of the Golden Dragon”. The movieis part of a major animation franchise in Russia, inncluding a hit TV series for 4-8 year olds, and a stereoscopic 3D feature, “Kikoriki: Team Invisible”. The release date for "Kikoriki: Legend of the Golden Dragon" is expected in October 2015.

Ravensbourne, one of the organisers of March’s 3D Creative Summit, is now launching the 3D Bootcamp, which will run from July 22-26, 2013. The five-day course will give directors, producers, DoPs, production designers, editors and VFX artists practical skills to work in stereoscopic 3D.

Participants will get to use 3D rigs from the likes of 3ality Technica, Sony and RED in a real production environment. They will also use tools including Mistika. One of the tutors will be Los Angeles-based Jill Smolin, director of education from 3ality.

Cost is only 180£ (excluding VAT) for the five days of intensive hands-on training.

Juqt before the Eurovision Young Dancers competition in Gdansk, Poland this June 13, 2013, KUK Filmproduktion spent three days recording the warm-ups and the rehearsals of the ten dancers with a special 3D rig fitted with 4K Sony F65 cameras.

The EBU's Media and Technology & Innovation Department has proposed this year's edition of Eurovision Young Dancers as the most suitable place to trial this innovative 4K3D project, because this Contest provides dynamic movements which suit stereoscopic 3D, and a brilliant and colourful stage set up which suits 4k. To improve the experience for the viewers in the future, and to understand better the performance of future technologies, a very high quality format that includes two times the resolution of 4k (4096 x 2160 pixels) at 50 frames per second was chosen.

In the scope of the Diimension3 festival in Paris, France, you will be able to 3D movies and four 4K films form 10:00 to 18:00 at the "Cercle Rouge" TSF cinéma (9, rue des fillettes, 93210 Saint-Denis, Paris, France). And the experience will be renewed from July 4 to 8 at three other cinemas in the area with "Le Cirque du Soleil 3D" and "Le Voyage Imaginaire 3D".

 Joe Golling (USA) has always been interested in 3D photography, but when he discovered "wiggle" images two years ago and became obsessed with those little .gif animations, he started taking hundredth of these. Of course, he discovered quickly that e image processing part was extremely time consuming so he decided to solve the problem with what he called "the Bowtie".

According to IGN, playing Yoshi's New Island on the glasses-free stereoscopic 3DS game console is like stepping into an impressionistic painting that's merged itself with your fuzziest, fondest SNES memories. Expect a release date around end of July.

ESPN is shuttering its 3D television network ESPN 3D by the end of the year because 3D TVs aren't as popular as they had hoped.

"Due to limited viewer adoption of 3D services to the home, ESPN is discontinuing ESPN 3D," an ESPN spokesperson wrote to Mashable, adding that ESPN "will be ready to provide the service to fans if or when 3D does take off." Future sales of 3D TVs will stay with Blu-ray disks and video on demand as drivers, at least as long as good glasses-free autostereosocopic sets are not available.

The stereoscopic 3DTV market is nevertheless stronger than ever, with 5.7 sets sold in the USA this year, a 39% increase from 2012.

RealD licenses 3D stereoscopic technology to motion picture theater chains and others that show 3D content and its shares were up a fraction on Friday June 7, 2013, after the 3D movie technology company late Thursday reported results that beat analyst estimates.

The Garden of Sinners ("Kara no Kyoukai" in Japanese) is a new collection of the seven Kara no Kyouka anime movies from 2007, 2008 and 2009. The Blu-ray 3D box is set to be released in Japan on July 10, 2013. The collection goes for 36,750 yen.

Sonic the Hedgehog, the classic speed runner game, appeared in May 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS with stereoscopic 3D capabilities in Japan. The game was available in Japan from May 15 for 600 yen (around $6 U.S.) and is now available in Europe according to the official Nintendo Magazine (UK Price: £4.49).
