XPAND 3D New Home Theater Division

New T.I. 3D DLP Chipset
Texas Instruments (USA) unveiled last month a new family of image processing chips designed for front projectors, which enable broader standardization of 3D and interactive technologies. Projectors with the new chipset design, which will be incorporated in shipping units starting late summer 2012, will seamlessly display content from common 3D-formats supported by HDMI 1.4, from virtually any mobile device including tablets, smart phones, laptops and Blu-ray players.
Panasonic offers the first product with this new chip.

London IMAX reopens with a new screen and digital 3D
After 13 years of operation on the London, UK South Bank, the huge IMAX screen measuring 26 metres wide and 20 metres high (85x65ft, as high as five double-decker red buses), is replaced with a brand new silver screen. The screen weights 800 Kg and is silver spray-painted on location with a purpose made robot, a mandatory step for passive glasses 3D stereoscopic projection...
The BFI IMAX was closed from Friday 22 June until Thursday 5 July, reopening today (July 6, 2012) with The Amazing Spider-Man in stereoscopic 3D. During these two weeks, they installed an IMAX 3D Digital projector alongside the IMAX film-based 3D projector, so that the BFI IMAX now has the option to present all IMAX DMR films. The BFI IMAX policy will be to show 70mm film prints whenever available until IMAX unveil their brand new laser-based projection system that can fully take the place of 70 film.
Behind the screen, you can see part of the (protected during works) surround loudspeakers. The BFI IMAX has a 11,600 Watts digital surround sound setup. Lapm power during a 3D projection as 15,000 Watts, enough to fry eggs in under one minute (but cooking and eating are prohibited in the projection booth).
