The Matterport 3D Camera Scanner
The Matterport is a stereoscopic 3D camera that scans and records all your surrounding in 3D. Matterport is located in Mountain View, CA, USA.
The Matterport 3D Camera is controlled using the related iPad app and uses an array of 2D and 3D sensors to quickly capture the appearance and dimensions of a space. It calculates interior dimensions, captures objects, colors and textures. And it works equally well whether the room is empty, under construction or cluttered with furniture or machinery. Unlike expensive and cumbersome laser-based systems, the Matterport 3D camera is cost effective and easy-to-use. It produces consistently high-quality 3D models in the hands of every user.

A Three Step Process
- Capture and upload
- Create and Host on the cloud
- Experience, change and Share
Capture: Capture 3D/2D data simply by running the camera in different spots, then upload the data to the cloud.
On the Cloud: Once the data is in our cloud we create and host a visually rich and dimensionally accurate 3D model. The Matterport Cloud Processor analyzes the 3D data to create a complete mesh that includes all rooms and then overlays the 2D images onto the mesh to create a realistic, textured 3D model of an entire space. The algorithms that power the solution are highly versatile and can handle a wide variety of situations. Because the models are generated in the cloud, they are easy to share with authorized users.
Experience: Experience and share the model through the Matterport Web Player, or change it with the Matterport Studio.
Matterport began sending cameras to members of its early adopter program in November 2013, and they start selling them in larger quantities in January 2014.
