Unreal Engine 3 Handles 3D Stereo
Unreal Engine 3 licensees now have access to RealD's stereoscopic 3D technology for their games, now that the middleware developer has joined Epic Games' Integrated Partners Program.
Studios could previously implement stereoscopic 3D in their games with UE3 using TrioViz, but that solution used a different method that worked with a title's existing three-dimensional graphics information to determine depth-of-field, geometry volume, and position while displaying a scene. RealD's Game Developer Toolkit manages camera separation and 3D depth effects in real-time, using features like Depth Budget Allocation to stretch perceived depth of scenes; and an AutoCAM dynamic camera system to automatically optimize cameras for every frame. Movie studios have used RealD's technology for years in films like The Avengers, Titanic, and Wrath of the Titans.
