3D Olympics Today in Los Angeles

The LA 3-D Club Event is taking place at The Downtown Independent. The coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games in 3D is presented by Jim DeFilippis, broadcast engineering consultant on the London 2012 Olympics.

Sunken Garden, an Opera - 3D Cinema Mix

Sunken Garden -an opera staged at the Barbican in London,UK-  is one of the first operas to make use of 3D film, mixing lives voices and a full orchestra on stage with recorded sounds and stereoscopic footage. Sunken Garden has been described as an 'occult mystery film opera'.

Audiences wear 3D glasses and are transported to a surreal garden that feeds on lost souls, flipping between live action and pre-recorded footage.

The show is 1 hour 50 minutes long and is presented every day between April 12 and 20, 2013. Tickets cost 16 to 50£. Watch the video trailer here under.

Visit CAVE2 at University of Illinois

CAVE2 Open Houses are being held on April 2 and April 24, 2013 to accommodate people interested in experiencing the new Stereoscopic Virtual Reality Environment developed by the University of Illinois at Chicago and its Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL).

This brand new system is really state-of-the-art and opened in October 2012, a setup absolutely impossible to afford at home. Judge by yourself: CAVE2 is approximately 8 meters (24 feet) in diameter and 2.6 meters (8 feet) tall, and consists of 72 near-seamless passive stereoscopic 3D LCD panels, a 36-node high-performance computer cluster, a 20-speaker surround Ambisonic audio system, a 10-camera optical tracking system and a 100-Gigabit/second connection to the outside world.

CAVE2 provides users with a 320-degree panoramic environment for displaying information at 17,280x2,160 pixels (37 Megapixels) in 3D or 17,280x4,320 pixels (74 Megapixels) in 2D with a horizontal visual acuity of 20/20 – almost 10 times the 3D resolution of the original CAVE. Formula Ona Live Events Coming in 3D in UK

Sky Sports (UK) is set to broadcast parts of the final pre-season Formula One test in 3D in what it claims will be a "world first".

All four days of the test will be shown on its regular SKY TV channel, with 3D broadcasts set to start after 14.00 each day. The test runs from February 28, 2013 to March 3, 2013  and will be the last chance for the teams to put mileage on their new Formula One cars ahead of the season-opener grand prix in Melbourne.

Sky says the broadcast is a "one-off 3D coverage" and didn't promiseit could be extended to a full practice, qualifying or race session in the 2013 season.   But as Sky prides itself on being at the forefront of stereoscopic 3D sports production, let's hope a bit...
