Alain Derobe is Dead

We are sad to announce that Alain Derobe died unexpectedly on March 12, 2012. Alain was the French stereographer behind the stunning "Pina" movie by Wim Wenders and recently finished working on "Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia" to be released in October 2012.

Since its diploma from the "École nationale Louis-Lumière" in 1958, he worked on more than 20 movies as D.O.P. and -from 1992- as stereographer.

Info about Alain Derobe

Alain Derobe was a founding member of the A.F.C (Association Française des Directeurs de la photographie, and the former president of UP-3D (association des professionnels de l’image en 3D Stéréo).

Alain Derobe is on our "3D People" short list, on IMDB, and and on the French Wikipedia.

You may read the last report by Alain Derobe from the "Asterix" shooting stage on InfoS3D ((in French, but you may try Google Translate at your own risks...).

The "Méthode Derobe" on your iPhone

The convergence setup methode called "Méthode Derobe" was devised by Alain Derobe and has been implemented in the small but very useful iPhone app known by many stereographers and called "Stereographer". Details of the method are given on Cine3D (in French, but with nice easy-to-understand videos).
