3D will soon be there

Three-dimensional TV will soon be here - and it looks like a winner. This seems to be the main conclusion of a nice TimesOnLine introduction paper about 3D TV and SONY in the wake of CES 2010. The first 3DTV to appear will be most probably from Sony, in 40 to 60 inches size with prices around 3000€ (2,500 £ or 4000 $).

3D Display revenues forecast

DisplaySearch forecasts 3D-ready TVs will grow from 0.2 million units in 2009 to 64 million units in 2018. 3D-ready TV will be the largest application in terms of revenue in 2018 with $17 billion (£10.6bn).

Toshiba REGZA 3D

Toshiba will start manufacturing stereoscopic Hi-Def 3D-enabled TVs from its REGZA range in collaboration with RealD in 2010. The expected models will be 46in and 55in 3D CELL REGZA displays and will be compatible with Sky's recently announced 3D broadcasting plans. The "3D movies list" web site is maintaining a list of available "3D Ready" screens. The page lists High-Definition Televisions (HDTVs) and desktop monitors that are capable of displaying very high quality stereoscopic 3D images and video. This list is a supplement to The Illustrated 3D Movie List.
