New autostereoscopic display panels
At SID 2011 (49th SID International Symposium, Seminar & Exhibition), Toshiba and Sony announced new autostereoscopic panels. Thoshiba's is an 8" intended for tablet computers, while Sony's was a 24" prototype from a future series of 10 to 30" displays.
The 24-inch 3D LCD display from Sony has a brightness of 300cd/m2 and offers six viewpoints. Its 3D images are best viewed from a distance of 80 to 160cm. In 2D, it has a resolution of 1920x1080. In 3D, this drops to 960x360 pixels (with 6 views). The brightness in 3D is still 86 cd/m2. Read more in Tech-On.
