David Stump, ASC, works on numerous motion pictures and television productions as Director of Photography, as Visual Effects Director of Photography and as a Visual Effects Supervisor, garnering Emmy nominations and an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement for Camera Data Capture Techniques.
David’s combined expertise in cinematography, 3D stereography, HD and visual effects has propelled him to the forefront of these industries’ developing technologies.
Dave’s involvement in the productions includes pioneering innovations including co- designing 3D camera rigs such as the one used for 3ality's 3D Super Bowl and U2 shoots as well as several other new technologies for 3D rigs currently under construction. Dave is the one that the Producer’s Guild of America and the American Society of Cinematographers entrusted to lead and guide their recent Camera Assessment Series; a side by side comparison of all seven high end digital cinema cameras to film. He is the Chairman of the ASC’s Camera and 3D subcommittees and has been honored with an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement as well as with an Emmy award and nomination.
David has also completed numerous broadcast, commercials and industrial projects for leading companies, major brand names and various leading advertising agencies. He is a member of the Producer’s Guild of America (PGA), the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), Visual Effects Society (VES), the Society of Operating Cameramen (SOC), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).
David is one of the co-founders of "The Stereo Consulting Group (3DCG)", a group of four complementary stereographers in the Los Angeles, USA area.
His credits include such projects as James Bond "A Quantum of Solace", Flight Plan, Fantastic Four, X-Men 1 & 2, Into the Blue, Garfield, Panic Room, Deep Blue Sea, Batman Forever, Hollow Man, Men of Honor, Stuart Little, The Sphere, Contact, Batman & Robin, Mars Attacks, Executive Decision, Stargate, Free Willy, and What Love Is, among others.
